TREATMENT BACKGROUND
Sculptra is an injectable collagen-stimulating treatment designed to gradually restore facial volume, improve skin firmness and address visible signs of ageing. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which works by stimulating the body's natural collagen production.
Over time, this helps improve skin structure, firmness and overall facial appearance, creating subtle, natural-looking results that can last for up to two years.
Sculptra is commonly used to address concerns including facial volume loss, hollow cheeks, skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles and changes in facial contours associated with ageing. Results develop gradually over several weeks to months, and multiple treatment sessions may be recommended depending on individual needs.
DOES IT HURT?
You may experience mild discomfort or a stinging sensation during the injections. A topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to help minimise discomfort, and Sculptra contains lidocaine to make the treatment more comfortable.
SIDE EFFECTS
As with any injectable treatment, Sculptra carries some risks and potential side effects. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and discomfort around the injection sites. These typically settle within a few days.
Less commonly, small lumps or nodules may develop beneath the skin, sometimes appearing weeks or months after treatment. More serious complications are rare but possible.
