Sculptra: The Collagen-Stimulating Treatment Now Available at The MediClinic

We’re excited to introduce Sculptra at The MediClinic, an injectable treatment designed for patients looking to address changes associated with facial ageing in a gradual and natural looking way.

While dermal fillers are often used to add or restore volume directly, Sculptra takes a different approach. It is a collagen stimulating injectable treatment that works by encouraging your body’s own natural collagen production over time.

The result? Rather than an immediate transformation, Sculptra is designed to support gradual improvements in facial structure, firmness and overall skin quality.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable treatment containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that works beneath the skin to stimulate collagen production.

Collagen is one of the key proteins responsible for maintaining the skin’s structure, firmness and support. As we age, our natural collagen levels decline, contributing to changes such as loss of firmness, reduced facial volume and alterations in facial contours.

Sculptra is designed to address these changes by stimulating new collagen production within the treated areas.

How is Sculptra different from dermal filler?

One of the most common questions we expect to hear is: Is Sculptra a filler?

Although both treatments are injectable and can be used as part of a facial rejuvenation plan, they work differently.

Traditional hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be strategically placed to provide volume, definition or structural support, with changes often visible immediately after treatment.

Sculptra, on the other hand, is a collagen biostimulator. Its primary purpose is to encourage the body to produce more of its own collagen.

This means Sculptra results develop progressively rather than appearing overnight. For many patients, this gradual change is part of the appeal.

What can Sculptra help with?

Sculptra may be considered for patients experiencing age-related changes such as facial volume loss, reduced firmness and changes to facial structure and contours.

Depending on your individual anatomy and concerns, it can be incorporated into a wider treatment plan designed to rejuvenate the face while maintaining natural proportions.

At The MediClinic, our approach is never simply to treat an isolated line or area. We assess the face as a whole, considering facial anatomy, proportions, skin quality and the underlying causes of the changes you are noticing.

When will I see results from Sculptra?

Sculptra is not intended to provide an instant result.

Following treatment, collagen production develops gradually, so improvements typically become more noticeable over the following weeks and months.

The number of treatment sessions required will vary between patients. Your practitioner will discuss this with you following a full consultation and create a personalised treatment plan based on your starting point and desired outcome.

Who is Sculptra suitable for?

Sculptra may be an option for patients who are beginning to notice changes in facial volume, firmness or structure and would prefer a treatment focused on gradual collagen stimulation.

However, no injectable treatment is suitable for everybody.

A thorough consultation is essential before treatment. During your appointment, we will assess your medical history, facial anatomy, concerns and expectations before discussing whether Sculptra is appropriate for you.

In some cases, another treatment or a combination of treatments may be better suited to what you would like to achieve.

Can Sculptra be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

Yes. Depending on your individual needs, Sculptra may form part of a broader facial rejuvenation plan alongside treatments such as dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, skin boosters or energy-based treatments.

This is why consultation and treatment planning are so important.

The goal should never be to choose a treatment simply because it is popular. Instead, we consider what is changing within your face and which treatment, or combination of treatments, is most appropriate for addressing it.
