Botox: What to expect after your treatment

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a cosmetic injectable treatment used for various medical and cosmetic purposes.

You have probably read and heard a lot about the actual treatment process of botox and the results that are achieved but what's often overlooked is the crucial stage that follows - what to anticipate after receiving Botox and the essential aftercare procedures.

After a Botox treatment, it's common to experience raised bumps. The resolution of these bumps depends on your skin's sensitivity, typically fading within an hour post-treatment.

Additionally, bruising and swelling are frequent side effects that usually subside within a few days following the treatment. In some cases, we may recommend the use of arnica cream to alleviate any bruising. Although anti-wrinkle injections are generally painless, there is a chance of bruising due to the use of needles.

Occasionally, clients may experience mild headaches after a Botox procedure, primarily attributed to the procedure itself and not a lasting side effect. It's important to note that most people won't encounter these symptoms, but it's essential to be aware of them.

It's important to understand that Botox results don't manifest immediately. Typically, it takes about seven days for Botox to start taking effect, and the full results become apparent after two weeks.

During the first week, you may still sense some changes and experience a slight feeling of heaviness. This signifies that the anti-wrinkle injections are taking action on the muscle, and the Botox is beginning to work. About two weeks after your procedure, we will schedule a review appointment, included in the original price, to assess your progress. At this time, if necessary, we may administer additional anti-wrinkle injections. This appointment also serves as a comprehensive evaluation of your response to the treatment. All of these services are part of our standard offering at The MediClinic, as quoted online.

During the review, we'll also compare your current results with your initial pictures. It's easy to forget how quickly the changes can make you forget your appearance just two weeks ago, as your new look becomes familiar.

In our professional opinion, anti-wrinkle injections show their best results after 4-5 weeks when they have fully settled and taken effect.

Naturally, before you leave, we will guide you through all the do's and don'ts and provide you with an aftercare leaflet if you choose to undergo this procedure with us. However, the most crucial guidelines to remember are to avoid touching the treated area, abstain from exercise, makeup, and alcohol for 24 hours following your treatment.

To arrange a consultation to assess your suitability for Botox injections and to discuss the expected results, feel free to reach out to us today for a no-obligation, complimentary consultation.
